Reliance to launch its first 5G smartphone with Google; read details
Reliance is all set to launch its 5G smartphone in partnership with Google. Here are all the details you need to know
At its last AGM, Reliance Jio announced its collaboration with Google to launch an affordable 5G smartphone in India. Earlier this week, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated the same. Jio launched its first 4G smartphone in 2017 followed by its 2018 launch, JioPhone 2. This will be their third launch and this is the first time these two tech giants are collaborating. Here are a few details of what we can expect from this launch:
The Date
If rumours are to be believed, Reliance might launch the smartphone at its June 24 AGM. This AGM is expected to be bigger than its last one and what could be a better date to launch its collaboration with Google.
The Specifications
While little details are available about the 5G JioPhone, it is expected to be powered by Qualcomm 4xx or a low-cost MediaTek 5G chipset. Since it is a Google partnership, it is a no-brainer to be an Android OS. However, the present versions of JioPhone have KiaOS.
The Price
Like all other offerings of Jio, even this is going to be super affordable. If rumours are believed, this 5G JioPhone can be priced below rupees 2500. Earlier it was reported that it maybe under rupees 4000. We will need to wait for the exact price to be announced by Reliance.
The Design
Considering the present JioPhone designs, the new 5G JioPhone may be following the same. While Jiophone 1 had an alphanumeric keypad, JioPhone 2 had a QWERT keypad. So, for JioPhone 5G, we can expect that they will have a touch screen with a QWERTY keypad.
The Data Plans
Jio shall soon launch their 5G data plans alongside the new smartphone. They currently have seven plans for JioPhone, starting from rupees 39 and range to rupees 749.
