Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi is possibly in his final season with French champion Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and will be quitting after the end of the season, having reportedly decided against triggering his one-year extension or renewing his contract. Since then, he has been heavily linked to a return to his boyhood club, the Spanish giant Barcelona.
However, a move to Catalan could be better for the Argentine, given that the club has a difficult financial situation. Also, given La Liga's strict Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, it will have to heavily cut down its wage bill to be eligible to sign new players, let alone Messi. Meanwhile, Barca's economic vice-president Eduardo Romeu has revealed how it can sign the FIFA World Cup 2022 winner.

“There are player sales, as the salary limit has to be lower. It is true that within the plan, there are more interesting points than others, and within those €200 million that we save, there are cost-cutting measures, but an increase in income must also be counted. We are in a good position and must ensure it continues," Romeu told AS.

“We are close to achieving our objective. I am convinced that [LaLiga] will give us the green light, but before we sign players, we have to register them, and before that, we have to sell. We will do what the manager asks us,” added Romeu. However, he has decided against revealing all information to put the Blaugrana under pressure or lose negotiation leverage.
