Skin care: Beauty benefits of green tea that can do wonders for your skin

Over the past few years, green tea has become quite a rage the world over and multiple brands have flooded the market offering it as sachets, tea bags, powder, tea leaves, extract and in every flavour possible.

Green tea uses are known for its high dose of antioxidants that help keep us healthy and also boost our immunity but that’s not all, this liquid has many other benefits as well.

But how beneficial is green tea really? What are its health benefits? Does it have any side-effects and can it be used topically on the skin and hair? If you’ve had these questions about green tea, we have the answers for you. Read on.

Face scrub: Green tea, when mixed with sugar, makes for an excellent face scrub that can help get rid of dead skin cells and dirt.
To make it: First, brew green tea using leaves or a teabag. Once it cools down, strain the liquid. Take two teaspoons of sugar in a bowl and add one teaspoon of green tea in it. The sugar should not dissolve in the tea as you need the scrub to be granular. Now massage it on your face avoiding area around the eyes. Wash your face after 10 minutes.

Skin toner: Green tea is wonderful for toning the skin as it can help unclog pores, get rid of dirt and also soothe the skin. It is acidic in nature which helps remove excess oil from the skin and also close open pores when it is cooled.
To make a green tea toner: Brew it and then allow it completely cool down. Next, fill an ice tray with this liquid and allow it to freeze. You can rub these green tea ice cubes on your face after using a face wash. It works as a natural toner.

Reduce puffiness around the eyes: Green tea can come to your rescue when you haven’t slept well and have puffy eyes. You can soothe the under-eye area with the help of either green tea bags or just the liquid. If you use tea bags to make your cuppa, don’t throw them out, instead, store them in the fridge. And whenever your eyes look tired and puffy, place these cool bags on or under your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. If you brew tea leaves, strain the liquid and let it cool. Store it in a bottle and then apply it under the eyes using a cotton ball. Wash your face after 10 minutes.

Hair rinse: Green tea is packed with antioxidants that help promote blood circulation. You can also use to promote hair health by making a simple tea rinse.
To make this: All you have to do is brew some green tea and then strain and cool it. Make about two cups at once to cover the length of your hair. Once it cools, shampoo your hair and then use this as the last rinse. Leave it on for an hour and then wash off with cool water.
