ATK Mohun Bagan continues to dominate the top spot in the Indian Super League 2020-21 table. It is coming off a commendable 3-1 win over arch-rival SC East Bengal, as the latter is already out of the playoffs race. Meanwhile, the players are having a good time following the win.
Indian Super League giant ATK Mohun Bagan is coming off an impressive 3-1 win over SC East Bengal in the 2020-21 Indian Super League on Friday. While ATKMB has already qualified for the playoffs, SCEB is already out of the race.
As ATKMB continues to bask in the glory, the players are embracing it. However, they would quickly need to shift their focus on the other task at hand, as the competition will get tougher from here. “Friday’s derby win will be one of the most memorable events of my footballer’s life. Not for own goal, goal passes or the man of the match, but for the Green-Maroon fans. I know how eager they were for this match. They put their heart, passion and everything at stake for this match, for the team. It feels good to be able to put a smile on their face. That’s why I want to dedicate all my Derby success to the supporters,” told striker Roy Krishna to ATKMB.
“Every time at the start of the season, I take an oath to be better than my previous performance. This time my goal is to break the record of last time of fifteen goals. Any goal is the result of team solidarity. I see this goal as a bonus. I hope I can meet my target after the end of the competition. Some more goals will be written next to the name as the goal scorer,” he added.
David Williams, who scored the second goal for the side, dedicated the same to his mother, who had celebrated her birthday on the same day. “Goals in the derby are memorable for any footballer. This goal was more memorable to me for another reason. My mother’s birthday was on Friday. I want to dedicate the goal to my ‘mom’. If this victory would have been in front of the supporters in Yuba Bharat. Even after winning, I was missing that atmosphere again and again,” he reckoned.
Meanwhile, Javi Hernandez, who scored the winner, said that there was barely any pressure on the side after levelling 1-1. “There was no pressure on us after 1-1. The whole team was so confident in themselves that we knew we would win. During the break, the coach instructed us to keep the defence intact and keep a cool head. And jump to score whenever we get a chance. We did that,” he professed.
