ISL 2020-21 playoffs: ATK Mohun Bagan sets final date after edging past NorthEast United FC

FollowIn what turned out to be a thrilling encounter, ATK Mohun Bagan managed to edge past NorthEast United FC 2-1 in the second leg of the semis of the Indian Super League 2020-21 at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday. With this win, ATKMB has set a date in the final against Mumbai City FC.

The opening half was hugely an attacking one, with saw 16 attacks until the 36th minute, including twin saves from each goalkeeper, while ATKMB's Javi Hernández hit the bar post in the second minute. Nonetheless, in the 37th minute, David Williams put ATKMB ahead with his right foot to the top-centre from a similar position, thanks to Roy Krishna's assist. While there were four more attempts made, it was no avail, as ATKMB lead at half-time.
The second half saw a similar approach from both sides, with ten attempts being made until the 65th minute, as NEU's Suhair Vadakkepeedika hit the post in the 46th, followed by three saves. Nevertheless, in the 67th minute, Manvir Singh doubled it for ATKMB with his left foot to the top-left from the centre, following yet another assist from Krishna.
Three more attacks followed until the 73rd minute, including another save from ATKMB goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya. Nonetheless, the exact minute saw Suhair Vadakkepeedika pull one back for NEU, with his header to the bottom-right in a close-range effort.
While ATKMB came up with another attack in the 77th, it was in the 80th minute when Subhasish Bose fouled Idrissa Sylla inside the box, thus awarding NEU a penalty. However, Luís Machado missed the spot-kick by shooting it over the bar.
Six more attempts were made, including a save from NEU goalkeeper Subhasis Roy Chowdhury. However, ATKMB's defence managed to hang on as the referee blew the full-time whistle to seal its fate and place in the final, against City.
