FC Goa's rusty form of the season continued, as it went down to a former champion, Channeiyin FC, in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. The win allowed Chennaiyin to stay in the eighth spot, while Goa has slipped to seventh.
The opening half was off to an attacking start from the former champion, who came up with twin attacks in the first three minutes. It was in the fourth minute when Rafael Crivellaro put his side ahead with a left-footed strike in a long-range effort from the right to the top-left corner.
While Chennaiyin came up with another attack in the sixth minute, it was a couple of minutes later when Goa scored the equaliser through Jorge Ortíz, following an assist from Romario Jesuraj, as the former shot it to the top-right corner from the centre through his right foot. Meanwhile, it was followed by 11 more attacks, which saw three shot on targets being saved, as the teams went into the half-time break with the deadlock in place.
Seven minutes into the second half, it saw five attacks, only for Chennaiyin to restore its lead in the 52nd minute, via Rahim Ali. He scored it from the right of the box, six yards away, by his right-footed shot to the bottom-right corner, following an assist from Rafael Crivellaro.
However, both the teams refused to give up, as 16 attacks ensured thereon, including five shot on targets being saved, while four of them happened to be from Goa, who were desperate to find another equaliser. Nonetheless, the Chennaiyin defence was strong enough to hold on until the final whistle, as tit was relieved to walk away with the three points, much to the frustrations of the Goans.
