ISL 2020-21: ATK Mohun Bagan shocked by NorthEast United FC in a thriller
This was ATK Mohun Bagan's third loss of the Indian Super League 2020-21, as with seven wins and three losses, it stays on second. Meanwhile, NorthEast United FC registered its fourth win of the season, while with six draws and three losses, it has risen to the fifth place.
In what turned out to be a thrilling encounter, ATK Mohun Bagan succumbed to a narrow 1-2 defeat to NorthEast United FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru, on Tuesday. With this loss, ATKMB stays on second, while NEU has risen to fifth.
The opening half saw 12 promising attacks from both, including a save from ATKMB goalkeeper, Arindam Bhattacharya. However, none of the sides could find the back of the net, as it was all goalless at half-time.
The second half saw six attacks being attempted until the 57th minute. Meanwhile, a couple of minutes later, Luís Machado put the host ahead with his right foot to the bottom-left, from the centre, following an assist from Federico Gallego.
NEU was relentless, as it came up with a couple of more attacks, while Mashoor Shereef almost doubled it, only for his header to hit the left post in the 69th minute. However, a couple of minutes later, ATKMB drew level, following Roy Krishna's left-footed strike to the bottom-left, six yards from the left, thanks to Carl McHugh's assistance.
ATKMB came up with three more attempts, including a save from NEU keeper, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury. Nonetheless, in the 80th minute, Federico Gallego restored NEU's lead with his right foot to the bottom-right from outside the box, following an assist from Rochharzela.
Four more attacks ensued, two each. However, none of them was converted into a goal, as NEU managed to edge past with the three points.
