Tamil Nadu Weather LATEST Update: Tamil Nadu is likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts due to an atmospheric circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Across Tamil Nadu
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal due to an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southeast Arabian Sea. A trough extending from the southeast Arabian Sea to the Kanyakumari region through Kerala and south Tamil Nadu is also influencing the weather conditions.
For May 23, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph is likely at isolated places in Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi and Namakkal districts.
Apart from these districts, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may occur at a few places across north Tamil Nadu and isolated areas of south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Rainfall Forecast Till May 28
The weather department has predicted continued rainfall activity across the state over the next few days.
On May 24, heavy rain is expected in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni and Madurai districts.
On May 25, heavy rainfall may continue in the hill regions of Coimbatore and Tiruppur along with Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
For May 26, the hill areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Erode, Salem and Namakkal districts are likely to receive heavy showers with thunderstorms.
Light to moderate rainfall is also expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on May 27 and 28.
Chennai Forecast and Fishermen Warning
Chennai is expected to witness partly cloudy skies today. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may occur during evening or night hours. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 40-41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 29-30 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for fishermen.
From May 23 to 26, strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph are expected along the south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and Kanyakumari Sea regions.
Similar rough sea conditions are predicted over parts of the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, including the Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep-Maldives region. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas during the warning period.
