India unveils BRICS 2026 logo and official website

India on Tuesday formally launched the logo and official website for its BRICS Presidency 2026, marking the beginning of preparations for its upcoming chairmanship of the influential global grouping. The launch event was held in New Delhi and was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, senior officials, and members of the diplomatic community.

The unveiling of the logo and website sets the tone for India’s leadership year and reflects how New Delhi plans to guide BRICS at a time of major global and economic change.

Design rooted in Indian culture and shared values

The newly launched BRICS 2026 logo strongly reflects India’s cultural identity while also highlighting the collective spirit of the group. The overall shape of the logo is inspired by the lotus, India’s national flower, which is often associated with growth, balance and resilience.

At the centre of the logo, the inner petals form two hands joined in a Namaste, a traditional Indian gesture of greeting, respect and welcome. This design element symbolises India’s approach to diplomacy, which places emphasis on dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful cooperation.

Colours represent unity among founding members

The logo uses five distinct colours, each representing one of the founding BRICS nations, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Together, these colours form the petals of the lotus, showing unity among countries with different histories, cultures and political systems.

Speaking at the event, Jaishankar said the logo reflects “unity in diversity”, a value that lies at the heart of both India and BRICS. He said the design shows how BRICS draws strength from the collective contributions of its members while respecting their individual identities.

Website to act as common digital platform

Along with the logo, India also launched the official BRICS India website. The website will serve as a central platform during India’s chairship in 2026.

According to Jaishankar, the website will provide regular updates on meetings, initiatives and outcomes linked to the BRICS process. It is expected to improve transparency, allow better engagement with global stakeholders and ensure timely sharing of information.

The website will also help researchers, media and the public follow India’s work during its BRICS Presidency.

Theme highlights development and innovation

Referring to the logo and the website, Jaishankar said India’s BRICS Presidency theme focuses on strengthening capacities, encouraging innovation and ensuring sustainable development for the benefit of all member countries.

He said the logo captures this vision by blending Indian tradition with a modern outlook, showing India’s intent to balance heritage with forward-looking policies.

Jaishankar noted that India will take over the BRICS chairship in 2026, which is a special year for the grouping as it completes 20 years since its inception.

Over the past two decades, BRICS has evolved into a major platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies. Jaishankar said the group has steadily expanded its agenda and membership while keeping people-centric development at its core.

Four priorities to guide India’s BRICS presidency

Outlining India’s roadmap for its chairship, Jaishankar said the country has identified four broad priorities:

• Resilience
• Innovation
• Cooperation
• Sustainability

He said these priorities would provide a balanced and clear framework across BRICS’ three foundational pillars - political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Focus on resilience and preparedness

Under the resilience pillar, India plans to work with BRICS partners to build stronger systems capable of handling global shocks.

Jaishankar said India would focus on resilience in agriculture, health, disaster risk reduction, energy and supply chains. He added that cooperative frameworks would help improve collective preparedness and response during crises.

Innovation as a key driver for growth

Jaishankar described innovation as a central driver of global economic development. He said the use of new and emerging technologies is vital to addressing social and economic challenges, especially in developing countries.

He highlighted the importance of cooperation in areas such as start-ups, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and digital innovation, while keeping a people-focused approach.

Commitment to cooperation and sustainability

The External Affairs Minister also stressed that cooperation and sustainability would remain core pillars of India’s approach.

He said India would work to advance climate action, promote clean energy and support sustainable development pathways in a fair and balanced manner. He added that development efforts must be sensitive to the needs and capacities of developing nations.

BRICS journey and expansion over the years

The term BRIC was first coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs in a paper predicting the rise of Brazil, Russia, India and China as major global economies.

In 2010, it was decided to expand the group, and South Africa joined in 2011, turning BRIC into BRICS.

The grouping expanded further in 2024, when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE became full members. Indonesia joined in January 2025, while several countries, including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan, were added as partner countries.
