Did Kishore Kumar finance Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali? Here is the answer

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar recently revealed an interesting incident about Kishore Kumar and Satyajit Ray that involves National Award-winning film Pather Panchali

Pather Panchali is one of the best films made in the history of Indian cinema. The national award-winning film marked Satyajit Ray’s debut as a director.

This 1955 masterpiece from Ray is a social drama inspired by a famous novel named Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.

The film tells a story of a young boy, ‘Apu’ from a low-income family and daily life in a rural Indian village. The film was produced by the then West Bengal government as the legendary filmmaker ran out of money after only shooting half of the movie. 

Bollywood filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has revealed some really interesting tales about the film and its deep connections with legendary singer Kishore Kumar.

Kishore Kumar's fans know that he used to love art and films. It is said that Kumar's fans had partly financed Ray's life-changing film Pather Panchali. 

"A fact Kishore Kumar never tired of reminding Ray about whenever they bumped into each other in Kolkata," said Sircar.

"Kishore Kumar never stopped preening about this fact to close friends, 'Do you know India's greatest film 'Pather Panchali' could've never been made if it wasn't for me'? He loved to see himself as a patron of the fine arts. In fact, some of the films that Kishore Kumar directed, like Door Gagan Ki Chaon Mein, reflected the sensitivities of Ray," Shoojit disclosed
