VVS Laxman favourite to replace Rahul Dravid as NCA head
Team India will be under the guidance of Rahul Dravid post 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. As a result, Dravid has left behind his role in the NCA, with VVS Laxman now being the favourite to take up the position.
It would be the beginning of a new era in the history of the Indian cricket team, as the side would now be under the fabulous guidance of legendary former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. This week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Dravid would take up the role following the conclusion of the continuing ICC T20 World Cup.

Although Ravi Shastri is now coaching the side for the past four years, he has refused an extension. While Dravid gets ready to take up the role during the upcoming New Zealand series at home from November 17, his appointment means that he has left the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head position in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, as the NCA post remains vacant, BCCI has already invited applications for the same, while some top names are doing rounds. However, if reports are to be believed, Dravid's former opening partner in Team India, VVS Laxman, is in the pole position to take up the role.

As per ANI, a BCCI source tells that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah are eager on having Laxman at the helm for NCA. However, the final call would be upon Laxman, as he and his family are based in Hyderabad. Also, he shares a special bond with Dravid, as he is likely to be convinced by the latter, while it would be highly beneficial for Indian cricket.
Speaking on his appointment as India's head coach, Dravid had told BCCI, "It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, and I am really looking forward to this role. Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day."
