Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21: Prithvi Shaw slams 4th ton to surpass Mayank Agarwal's record
Prithvi Shaw is an opening batsman who plays for Mumbai. He has represented India in Tests and One-Day Internationals while he plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He is currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he is the season's highest run-scorer.
Indian and Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has once again solidified his stance on making a national comeback, especially in the One-Day Internationals. He slammed a 122-ball 165 against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semis, in Delhi, on Thursday.
It was Shaw's fourth century of the season, having scored the most runs of the season (754), at an average of 188.50. While he has a top score of an unbeaten 227, he has already slammed four centuries this term.
As a result, Shaw scripted a new record. He has now become the highest run-scorer in a season of the tournament, going past the Mayank Agarwal's previous record, who had scored 723 last season. Meanwhile, the record has also been broken by Karnataka's Devdutt Padikkal this season, who has scored 737.
Also, Shaw bettered Mayank's record of scoring the most centuries in a single edition, as Mayank had scored three in the 2017-18 edition. As for his knock on Thursday, it involved 17 fours and seven sixes.
Earlier this week, Shaw had also slammed a 123-ball 185 against Saurashtra. Consequently, he surpassed Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli's record of 183 each, as he became India's highest individual scorer in a List-A game while chasing.
As for this game, Mumbai rode to a comfortable 72-run win over Karnataka. It would now take on Uttar Pradesh in the final, in Delhi, on Sunday.
