It was an awkward day for former champion Rajasthan Royals (RR), as it ceased to an extensive eight-wicket defeat to defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 51 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. RR is out of the playoffs race with this loss, while quite a few records were scripted in the process.

RR produces some lowest
RR managed a paltry total of 90/9. As a result:
- It is the lowest IPL total in Sharjah.
- It is the fourth-lowest IPL total in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the lowest being 70 by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against RR in Abu Dhabi in 2014.
- It is the second-lowest IPL total, batting 20 overs, with the lowest being 84/8 by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against RCB in 2020.
- It is its third-lowest in the IPL, with the lowest being 58 against RCB in 2009.

MI scripts a unique
Nine pacers claimed the wickets for RR in this tie. It was the joint second-most claimed by the pacers for MI in an IPL game. Also, it was the biggest win in this IPL in terms of balls to spare (70), besides being the fifth quickest in IPL history.

Winning the toss and inviting RR to bat, Rajasthan was off to a jittery start and losing wickets in regular intervals. Although it managed to bat the entire 20 overs, it could work just 90/9, with Evin Lewis (24) being the top scorer, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Neesham nailed it for a four-for and three-for each. In reply, Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 50 got the job done by eight wickets, with 70 balls to spare.
Brief scores: RR 90/9 (Lewis- 24; Coulter-Nile- 4/14, Neesham- 3/12) lost to 94/2 in 8.2 overs (Kishan- 50*; Rahman- 1/32) by eight wickets.
