IPL 2021: MS Dhoni fined ₹12 lakh for CSK's slow over-rate against DC
MS Dhoni is the longest-reigning skipper in the Indian Premier League, leading in 13 seasons, while he is also the longest for Chennai Super Kings. CSK was off to a jittery start in IPL 2021, having lost to Delhi Capitals. Dhoni could manage to score a duck in the game.
Indian Premier League giant and former champion Chennai Super Kings suffered a setback during its opening game of IPL 2021. Skipper MS Dhoni was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during CSK's game against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
It is the first sanction of the tournament that has come just in the second game of IPL 2021. Meanwhile, it must be noted that the IPL's Code of Conduct has made it a strict norm to adhere to the new minimum over-rate guideline from this season, which happens to be 14.1 overs per hour, including the time-out.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh," read a statement from IPL.
CSK was off to a nervous start to IPL 2021, as it lost the game to DC by seven wickets. Furthermore, Dhoni could not contribute anything with the bat, as he was dismissed for an ill-fated duck.
For CSK, it was Suresh Raina who was the star, scoring a worthy 54. However, Prithvi Shaw (72) and Shikhar Dhawan (85) stole the game away from CSK, thanks to their 100-plus opening stand.
Brief scores: CSK 188/7 (Moeen- 36,Raina- 54, Curran- 34; Woakes 2/18, Avesh- 2/23) lost to DC 190/3 in 18.4 overs (Shaw- 72, Dhawan- 85; Thakur- 2/53) by seven wickets.
