IPL 2021: Daniel Sams of Royal Challengers Bangalore tests COVID positive
The 2021 Indian Premier League gets underway from Friday, with Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on Mumbai Indians. The matches would be held behind closed doors owing to the rise in COVID cases in the country. Meanwhile, some of the playing contingents have also tested positive.
In yet another COVID case identified in the Indian Premier League 2021, all-rounder Daniel Sams of Royal Challengers Bangalore is the latest player to test positive. Although he had tested negative on arrival, the second test came out to be positive.
“Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility. The RCB medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols,” RCB said in a statement.
Sams is the second RCB player to test positive. Earlier, uncapped opening Indian batsman Devdutt Padikkal had tested positive for the same on March 22 and was in ten-day home quarantine before returning to the training camp on Wednesday following a negative report.
Sams is all set to miss RCB’s opening game on Friday against defending champion Mumbai Indians in Chennai. He was roped in this season as a part of pre-season trade with Delhi Capitals for Harshal Patel.
Sams played just three games for DC last season, failing to claim a single wicket. However, he has a decent Twenty20 career, having claimed 67 wickets in 54 games at an economy of 8.55.
