The Indian Premier League is the most awaited Twenty20 tournament of the year, as it would get underway from Friday. Among some of the top teams, Chennai Super Kings would once again be looked out for, continued to be led by legendary skipper MS Dhoni.
Dhoni is the longest-reigning skipper of not just CSK but also in the entire IPL. While he would be leading CSK on record 12th occasion, he has been the skipper in the tournament on 13 occasions.
Having been playing since 2008, he has attained numerous records to his name. With IPL 2021 coming up, he is yet again set to script a few feats to his name, as we take a look at three of the most important ones.
5,000 IPL runs
To date, Dhoni has scored 4,632 runs in the competition, as 368 more would allow him to enter the 5,000-run club. He would become the sixth in the tournament and second from CSK after Suresh Raina. He could also become the first wicketkeeper-batsman to do so, provided Royal Challengers Bangalore's AB de Villiers (4,849) doesn't get there first.
200 IPL games as skipper
Dhoni has so far played 204 games in the tournament. Meanwhile, 188 of them happen to be as the captain. Since he would be leading the side entirely in 2021, 12 more games would allow him to play his 200th game as the skipper, which would be a first in the IPL.
150 IPL dismissals as wicketkeeper
So far, Dhoni has 148 dismissals to his name (109 catches and 39 stumpings). A couple more would allow him to become the first wicketkeeper in the tournament to inflict 150 dismissals.
