First shot of COVID-19 vaccine to be given at SSKM hospital in Kolkata on Jan 16
The COVID-19 vaccine “Covishield” arrived in Kolkata on Tuesday (January 12) afternoon. The vaccine has been manufactured by the Serum Institute of India in Pune.
SSKM and NRS medical colleges, two hospitals in the state have geared up for COVID vaccination programme that is all set to be launched in the country on 16 January.
Ten thousand SSKM hospital staff, including doctors, nurses and Group-D employees, would be vaccinated in phases.
Dr Raghunath Mishra, superintendent of SSKM hospital, said, “Our hospital will be the model vaccination centre in the state and I am eagerly waiting to get vaccinated to fight against infection. We are equipped with all sorts of preparatory measures.”
NRS Hospital has also taken all precautionary measures at vaccination centre. Dr Karabi Baral, superintendent of NRS Medical College Hospital said, “Vaccination will start among our health workers as per the list prepared by the health department.”
COVID vaccine dry run has already been held in different districts across Bengal on 8 January.
