Coronavirus: PM Modi-led govt approves wheat at Rs 2, rice at Rs 3

Union Cabinet minister Prakash Javadekar said in a press conference today that every person will get 7 kg ration per month for the next three months, including wheat at a cost of Rs 2 per kg, instead of Rs 27 per kg; and rice at cost of Rs 3 per kg, instead of Rs 37 per kg. All this at a time when the nation is under complete lockdown for the next 21 days.
In today's Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government has approved the largest food security scheme to benefit 80 crore people across the country.
It is reported that every individual will receive 7 kg ration per month for the next three months.
The ministry also decided to grant people wheat at a cost of Rs 2 per kg, instead of Rs 27 per kg. And rice at cost of Rs 3 per kg, instead of Rs 37 per kg, Cabinet minister Prakash Javadekar said in a press conference today.
The minister has also assured that there will be no shortage of food products and essential goods during the coronavirus lockdown.
This comes when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a countrywide lockdown yesterday, forcing people to stay inside their houses for the next 21 days to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prakash Javadekar said workers working on contract shall be considered on duty and will get their payment.
Rs 1,340 crore for Regional Rural Banks for capital adequacy where Centre will invest Rs 670 crore.
Finance ministry is keeping an eye on the economic fall out of the situation.
