TN govts ration card goof up Prints Kajal Agarwals picture on 64 year olds smart card

The Tamil Nadu government has been hitting the headlines for quite some time now, owing to its recent spate of goof ups in issuing ration cards. In a similar mix-up, a 64-year-old from Kamalapuram in Salem received her smart card with actress Kajal Agarwal's photo printed on it.

Speaking to the media, Saroja's relative said, "The picture on the smart card is of an actor, Kajal Aggarwal. The picture on the smart card and Saroja are not related in any way. Another woman from our neighbour also has a picture which does not look like her. How are we supposed to use this to get ration? We again have to go and get this photo changed now. Why can’t the officials do their work properly?"

In fact, many people from the same village have complained of similar mistakes. Some have been issued cards with photos of actors, trees, dogs and more. It is all due to the negligence of government staff.

While ration card is one thing, the government has been issuing Aadhaar cards of dogs, trees and chair too. Photos of actors Ajith, Vijay and Nayanthara have also been seen on the ration cards of many applicants.

Interestingly, an official, speaking to the Times of India, states otherwise, "We were shocked to find the photographs of popular actors like Ajith, Vijay and Nayanthara in the attachments provided for family heads during verification. In a few cases, some have uploaded landscapes, photographs of deities and of outings with family members at picnic spots." He further states that one application had come with an obscene picture attached to it. It is said that about 10% of the photographs received for family heads was inaccurate.
