Director SS Rajamouli has defended Baahubali and slammed the ban on the release of the film in Karnataka by pro-Kannada activists, who have demanded an apology from Tamil actor Sathyaraj who plays Kattappa in Baahubali 2.

They said unless 'Kattappa' famed Sathyaraj apologises to Kannadigas, Baahubali 2 will not be allowed be to released in Karnataka, threatened Vatal Nagaraj, President of Federation of Kannada Organisations.

In an interview with Bollywoodlife, SS Rajamouli spoke about the ban on Baahubali in Karnataka, “The saddest thing is people tend to ignore, tend to think it’s a recent issue. The comment Mr Sathyaraj had made was about nine years ago so many of his films released, at least 30 of his films released during this time, Baahubali 1 released.

He also added, "There was no objection at that point. It (the ban) decison has come out of the blue. My opinion is that we are in no way connected with the issue. it’s a very sensitive subject."

Interestingly, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce also seems to be supporting the ban. While speaking to a daily, Sa Ra Govindu, President of the body said, “Till now neither the actor nor the filmmakers have approached the Chamber to discuss the issue. Unless the actor apologises, the screening will not take place in Karnataka. He has insulted Kannadigas.”

According to reports, Vatal Nagaraj has also planned to stage a protest on April 28 against the release of the film in Bengaluru and also stated that the release will not be allowed statewide.

Also, currently, no distributor has come forward to get the theatrical rights of the film in Karnataka.
