Actress Surabhi Lakshmi says she had always dreamt of standing amidst flashing cameras.

And after winning the National Award for Best Actress this year for her performance in 'Minnaminungu', Surabhi now has a shot at living the dream.

Surabhi said she doesn't think about "image" while selecting a role. She stressed she wanted to become an actress who could handle any character easily and make them more beautiful.

"I don't think about image while selecting characters. Age of the character should not be a factor in selecting a role," the 30-year-old said, addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Ernakulam Press Club.

Surabhi said she had handled the role of a mother of two children in a popular TV show called 'M80 Moosa'.

"The role actually helped me to increase my value in the field", she said.

"It is not correct to say that handling the role of aged persons would decrease our value in the world of film and TV programmes," the actress pointed out, adding that her National Award winning role in the low-budget 'Minnaminungu' was of a mother of a grown-up girl.

The actress also said she considers the National Award as a turning point in her acting career.

"I am still amazed... I couldn't believe it", she said about the award.

Surabhi was in Oman for a stage show when the National Awards were announced in New Delhi on April 7. She came to know about her victory from the people who had come to receive her at the airport.
