Puthan Panam will see Mammootty in the role of Kasaragod-based businessman Nithyananda Shenoy. It is understood that the film primarily deals with demonetisation and black money issues.

The film's tagline 'The New Indian Rupee' suggests that it could be connected to the director's National Award-winning 2011 film 'Indian Rupee', which had Prithviraj in the lead.

Renji Panicker, Siddique, Saikumar, Mammukoya, Indrans, Baiju, Joy Mathew, Iniya, Parvathy Nambiar and Sheelu Abraham will also feature in Puthan Panam.

Puthan Panam marks the return of the Mammootty-Ranjith team, which had previously combined to deliver several critically and commercially successful films such as 'Black', 'Kaiyoppu', 'Paleri Manikyam' and 'Pranchiyettan and The Saint'.

Mammootty's 'The Great Father', which released last week, had broken industry records for the biggest opening day collection and also became the fastest film to rake in Rs 20 crore in Mollywood.
