The hit-maker team of director Priyadarshan and Mohanlal is all set to come back on screen after a long time. The duo which has entertained the audience with hits like Boeing Boeing, Chithram, Vandanam, Killukam, Minnaram, is all set to enthral the Malayali audience with the historical drama based on the life of legendary naval chief from Kerala, Kunjali Marakkar.

Ace cinematographer-turned-director Santosh Sivan had earlier announced a project based on Kunjali Marakkar starring Mammotty in the titular role. Allegedly, Priyadarshan had told the media that he would wait for a while to see if this project would take off and depending on that he would either back out or proceed with his version of the movie. At the recent title launch, the director mentioned that the project starring Mammotty was unlikely to happen this year so he was going ahead with his other films.

The veteran film-maker claimed that the project was one of his long-cherished dreams and that the script was a fusion of history and fiction which the director has co-written with noted screenwriter T Damodaran. The son of legendary film-maker IV Sasi, Ani, would also be a co-writer of the script in this movie.

The movie “Marakkar, Arabikadalinte Simham” (Marakkar, The Lion of the Arabian Sea) which will be jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment is touted to be one of the most expensive Malayalam films ever made.

The movie, however, is in news for the crew as it is the same crew that delivered the hit ‘Kaalapani’. The movie which would talk about Kunjali Marakkar IV would have a huge ensemble cast of leading artists from Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Britain.
