As per a report in TOI, the whole controversy over Ramya’s ‘Pak’ remark has made it to headlines of all top dailies. And not just this, Pak news channels have also been playing Ramya’s remark in loop.
Though all the headlines gave coverage to how Ramya faced sedition charges on saying “Pak is not hell”, many readers in Pakistan have responded by saying that neither India nor Pak is hell. Many even blamed politicians for trying to spread hatred between the countries. A local court in Karnataka has adjourned the issue to October 19 for the next hearing.
Interestingly, though Pakistani media seems more than thrilled to highlight every instance of praise from any Indian of any standing, the treatment they ment out if one of their own happens to make some positive remark on India is - perhaps unsurprisingly - the complete opposite.
For example, when bowling legend Wasim Akram was heavily criticized on social media for being a part of the IPL, in an exclusive interview he asked his fans, "to kya main yahan baith ke kya amrood bechun?" which means "Should I just sell guavas here?"
This backlash did not even spare Shahid Afridi, perhaps Pakistan's most favourite cricketer in recent times. Shahid Afridi mentioned during the World Twenty20, 2016, “We have always enjoyed playing in India and have been loved by Indian crowds more than crowds back home in Pakistan.” This sentiment so irked former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad that he lashed out, saying “What have the Indians given us? Speak the truth even while in India. For the last five years what have they given us or done with Pakistan cricket. Having served Pakistan cricket for so many years I am shocked and hurt to hear such comments from our players."
Pakistan’s former Test opener and chief coach Mohsin Khan also lashed out at the players. He had said, "They are senior players and should be careful while speaking to the media specially while touring India."
Former Pakistan cricketer Rameez Raja has also been trolled in Pakistan a number of times for his pro-India commentary.
