Exclusive: Sandalwood film Robert’s director Tharun Sudhir opens up about Darshan’s latest
In an exclusive interview to Asianet Newsable, Tharun Sudhir, director of Kannada film Robert starring Challenging Star Darshan, shared excerpts of the film
FollowBengaluru: Action entertainment of Sandalwood hero and challenging star Darshan Togudeepa's Robert has become the talk of the town as the film's first look was released on social media at 11:45 am and is setting the same on fire among all the digital platforms. Tharun Sudhir, director of the film, speaks exclusively to Asianet Newsable.
What is the Kannada film Robert all about?
Its is a complete commercial and family drama. For the first time, Darshan Sir is has done something he has not done so far. His looks, character, etc, are all very different. We are done with the shoot and it is ready for a summer release.
These days, Telugu star Jagapathi Babu is on high demand across all South Indian films, was this the reason you selected him?
No, not at all. When I wrote the script, I had only him for a particular role. When I went and narrated the script, he just fell in love with it. He readily agreed and has a very powerful role in Robert.
Getting Darshan on board is a prize catch; how did this happen?
Darshan sir has done a cameo in my previous film Chowka and incidentally, he played a role by the name Robert in that. But it has got nothing to do with the new film titled Robert as this one is an action film. When we finished shooting Chowka, he told me to approach him if there is some nice script. When I narrated the script, he was kind enough to give me an opportunity.
Where have you shot this is action film?
About 50% to 60% of the film was done in Uttar Pradesh's' Varanasi and Lucknow.
The earlier poster with a bike where Darshan poses in the back was a hit
The bike plays an important role in the film and now we are not in the position reveal details. This is a surprise element.
About the female lead?
Asha Bhat from Vidyut Jamval starrer Junglee fame has been roped in. She is a model and is actually from Karnataka. The actress has won the Miss Supernational pageant of the year 2014 and was the first Indian to win that pageant.
With Robert, Asha will be debuting in the Kannada film industry.
With Arjun Janya as music composer, what is your take?
This is mass hero Darshan's film, and it needs some special music. From the time we were scripting, we decided to ensure there is a specific score for each song. I told him about the mood of the film and everything was planned.
