Aishwarya’s distress with bold scenes began with Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in which she featured in several sultry sequences with Ranbir Kapoor.

Buzz is that the actress’ father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan vehemently disapproved of the scenes and had reportedly asked director Karan Johar to chop them. During an event, when Jaya Bachchan was asked to comment on Aishwarya's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, she had said, "Earlier, filmmakers created art. Today, it's a business and all about numbers. Everything is thrown at our face. People have forgotten subtlety. Open display of affection is considered smart... sharam naam ki toh cheez hee nahi hai."
