There are many directors in Indian cinema, but few remain in the news, including ‘Raksha Bandhan’ director Aanand L Rai. Aanand is counted among the Hindi film industry's famous directors, who have given numerous hits such as 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Raanjhanaa'. Today, on June 28, Aanand L Rai is celebrating his 51st birthday. Here are some lesser-known facts about the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ director that his fans must know.

Aanand L Rai's Pakistan Connection: Born on 28 June 1971 in New Delhi, Aanand was raised in the national capital where he spent his childhood. However, before Aanand L rai’s birth, he was father used to live in Pakistan and moved to Dehradun after the partition. And from Dehradun, he moved to New Delhi, where Aanand was born and raised. Aanand did his schooling in Delhi, but for his further studies, he moved to Mumbai.

Aanand L Rai was an engineer before becoming a filmmaker: There are many such stars in Bollywood, who have left engineering and opted for the film world instead. Aanand also falls in this category. He did computer engineering in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. After completing his studies, he also worked in a company as an engineer. Everything was going well in his life, but he felt that there was something missing; and to fulfil this shortcoming of his life, he moved to Mumbai.

Started to work with his brother: When Aanand L Rai did not find a job as an engineer in Mumbai, he decided to make his move toward the world of cinema. His brother Ravi Rai used to direct TV shows at that time. Aanand decided to join his brother and started working as an assistant. After this, he himself directed the shows and then he got a chance in Bollywood. His debut film was 'Stanger on a Train’, starring actor Jimmy Shergill in the lead role.

‘Tanu Weds Manu’ changed his luck: The turning point of Aanand L Rai's career became the film 'Tanu Weds Manu', which was released in the year 2011. Apart from his own, Kangana Ranaut's career benefited a lot from this film. After this, he directed the film 'Raanjhana', in which the pair of Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush did wonders. In the year 2015, 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' was released under the direction of Aanand L Rai which proved to be a super hit. Aanand L Rai had directed the 2018 film 'Zero', in which Shahrukh Khan was seen.

Upcoming project: Aanand L Rai’s last film that was released in the theatres was ‘Atrangi Re’, starring actors Dhanush, Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan. The film could not do great business at the box office. However, he is now gearing up for the release of ‘Raksha Bandhan’, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role.
