As expected by the media and predicted by all the exit polls, Mamta Bannerjee obtained a clear verdict in West Bengal. Here are 5 reasons why the voters chose Didi:

Standing alone, standing tall: Many voters switched camps after the Left front's allied with the Congress. While on the other hand Didi decided to have no alliance with any other parties.

Handling of criticisms: In spite of an onslaught of corruption charges over the Saradha scam and the Narada sting, Mamata countered the opposition with much charisma. The boldness of Mamta in answering to her critics won her the admiration of Bengali voters.

Winning young voters: Mamata expanded her support base among youth and students with several welfare schemes.

Prioritising the local leaders:  She gave many to local leaders in all her constituencies priority roles, which helped her strengthen her base in the rural areas as well.

Her 'struggles against the central government': In the midst of the election campaigning, Mamata played the victim card and got into a war with the election commission and the central government.
