The Bharatiya Janata Party has named Suvendu Adhikary as the contender who will take on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the East Midnapore district.
It will be a prestige battle of sorts for Mamata Banerjee who decided to vacate her own seat Bhawanipur in South Kolkata to contest in Nandigram.
Suvendu, who was once Mamata's close aides, was the sitting legislator from Nandigram.
The BJP today announced the list of candidates for the first two phases of elections in West Bengal.
Elections in West Bengal are due to be held in eight phases from March 27 to April 29.
