Pandemic enforced lockdown turned Bollywood artist into drug peddler; 2 arrested with 105g mephedrone

Officials of Mumbai Crime Branch who arrested two persons with drugs have come across the fact that one of the arrested accused allegedly turned to drug peddling as he found no work opportunity after the Bollywood industry stopped production.

Mumbai: As the pandemic forced many to look for alternate professions after heavy job cuts, halting of business and hiring freezes, a Bollywood makeup artist and a garment trader allegedly switched to drug peddling.

Based on a tip, the Mumbai City Crime branch on Thursday arrested makeup artist Niketan Suresh Jadhav alias Nikhil (30) and his friend a garment trader Parvez Hanif Halai (32) in Borivali. During the arrest, the cops also allegedly found 105g of mephedrone with them.

Police who had the information about drug supply, laid a trap and then allegedly caught the accused red-handed.

The accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They have been taken into police custody.

Makeup artist Nikhil, who has worked with film production houses, is being investigated for links to Bollywood and other celebrities.

As per reports, the accused was previously booked for attempt to murder, assault, and housebreaking cases.
