Gujarat: On pretext of dropping her home, auto driver and four others gangrape 21-year-old

Women’s safety in India has always remained a concern and shocking reports of gang rape don’t seem to stop. In the latest to join the list of shameful acts is an incident that occurred in Gujarat on August 15 night when a woman was returning from hospital.

On August 15 night a shameful incident of gang rape was reported from Gujarat. As per a report, a 21-year-old was on her way carrying food to her mother who works at a local hospital. Her mother works to support the family as her father is sick.

On Friday night, when the girl was about to leave the hospital, the accused who owns an auto told the girl he will drop her home. The victim agreed and boarded the auto. On the way, the auto was diverted to Munshar Talav in Viramgam and the driver took her to a desolate place and allegedly raped her. He was later joined by four others who allegedly gang-raped her.

The victim was reportedly let go after being given death threats. The shocked young woman after coming home narrated the incident to her family and then approached police, following which a complaint was registered at Viramgam police station.

Police booked a case under IPC sections 376 (d) (gangrape) 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc.) and 506 (Punishment for Criminal Intimidation) and three people have been arrested. The search is on for two more accused.
