Sushil Kumar's involvement in the infamous Chhatrasal Stadium murder case has taken a new turn. He has been sent to judicial custody for nine days by a Delhi court.

On Wednesday, the Delhi Police had filed a plea to the court for further custodial interrogation of the Olympian wrestler. However, the same has been rejected by the court, ending his four-day custody with the police, reports PTI.

Sushil has been charged with murder, culpable homicide, and kidnapping. He was allegedly involved in a brawl at the stadium on May 4, which led to the death of junior wrestler Sagar Rana, while he was arrested on May 23 by DP before being handed over to the Crime Branch.

Meanwhile, The Times of India reports that Sushil's lawyer has demanded a separate cell for Sushil, as the latter's life could be in danger from the Jathedi gang. The lawyer has stated that Sonu Mahaal, a nephew of gangster Kala Jathedi, was also beaten up by Sushil and his associate Ajay. The former is looking for revenge against the Olympian.

Meanwhile, a police investigation has revealed that the dispute between Sushil and Jathedi arose when Ajay had misbehaved with Mahaal's girlfriend during her birthday party at the Model Town flat. It led to a linguistic spat between Rana-Mahaal and Sushil-Ajay, as the formers asked the latters to vacate the flat, while the latters' act had also angered Jathedi.

Jathedi is a wanted criminal with prize money of ₹7 lakh on his head. Besides his Model Town flat, he supposedly has several other properties that he uses to provide refuge to offenders.
