Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl allegedly killed her 41-year-old mother at their residence in Sector 7, Airoli after a dispute over her studies.
The girl, who passed her SSC exams last week, strangulated her mother to death with a karate belt, following a quarrel between them over the minor’s preparations for the NEET medical entrance exam, the police said.
The FIR states that the victim’s brother told the police on the afternoon of July 30, his sister’s husband, who was travelling, called and asked him to rush to their residence, saying his wife was not opening their bedroom door. The brother quickly reached their home and managed to break it open to find his sister “lying unconscious” on the bed with a cloth belt used for practising karate around her neck, which he took off. He immediately called the cops, around 3.10 pm, who in turn took the victim to Vashi NMMC Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Her brother showed the cops a message he had received from the victim’s mobile phone at 2.39 pm, stating, “I tried everything, I quit.” Hence, Rabale police initially registered an accidental death case.
On July 30, there was a brawl at home over studies when the girl pushed her mother who fell on the floor and received serious trauma injuries, said IO Avinash Mahajan.
Later, in a fit of rage, the girl allegedly choked her injured mother with a karate belt and dragged her body onto the bed, though it is not known if her 7-year-old younger brother was at home or not.
She then sent out a message from her mother's mobile to her maternal uncle, claiming her mother locked herself inside the bedroom, ostensibly to pass off the crime as a suicide.
According to a PTI report, the girl had last month also complained to the police about her mother, following which the police reportedly counselled the family members.
On July 30, the girl informed the police that her mother fell and died, the official was quoted as saying by new agency PTI.
The body was sent for a forensic examination and the report revealed that the woman was strangled to death, he added.
During questioning, the teenage girl told the police that she had strangled her mother with a karate belt after a fight with her, the official told news agency PTI.
