It was a miserable outing by the Netherlands. On Friday, it lost to Sri Lanka by eight wickets in a low-scoring one-sided dominance during Group A's Qualifier 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The match was a dead rubber, while the game also brought an end to the Qualifiers.

While winning the toss, Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka opted to bowl, bringing Charith Asalanka for Dinesh Chandimal. As for the Dutch, captain Pieter Seelaar made three changes, while all-rounder Ryan ten Doechate announced his retirement moments before the game. Meanwhile, the Netherlands was off to a pathetic start, losing more than half of its side within the Powerplay, scoring 37/6.

Just seven runs later, the entire team was shot out for a petty 44 by the tenth over, with Colin Ackerman (11) being the top scorer and the only lad to enter double figures. Eventually, it was also the second-lowest total in the tournament's history. The Lankan bowlers were bang on target, with Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga claiming three each, while the former simply hammered it with his economy too.

In reply, Lanka, too, had a couple of setbacks within the PP, losing opener Pathum Nissanka (0) and Charith Asalanka (6) within the sixth over. However, with such a low total to chase down, it was hardly a matter of time, as fellow opener Kusal Perera (33*), along with Avishka Fernando (2*), saw it through within the eighth over, winning by eight wickets.
