Ranji Trophy 2021-22 knockouts to be played in Kolkata, Delhi to host Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final

Indian domestic cricket season starts in a full-fledged manner this season. The Ranji Trophy knockouts have all been scheduled in Kolkata, while Delhi has the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.

India's domestic cricket season is all set to start from November 4 with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Also, the premier First-Class tournament, Ranji Trophy, begins from January 13, while Vijay Hazare Trophy would be played from December 8.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India released the fixtures list of the entire domestic season on Monday,reports ESPNCricinfo. It was confirmed that the SMAT final would be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In contrast, the Ranji knockouts, including the final, would be held at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

Before the Ranji begins, teams would undergo a five-day quarantine. The matches would be held across six venues: Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum and Chennai. After serving another five-day quarantine, the teams would participate in Kolkata knockouts, starting February 20.

There would be six groups in Ranji, including five Elite groups and a plate. Elite Group C consists of Ranji giants Mumbai, Karnataka and Delhi, while Group D includes defending champion Saurashtra, along with Tamil Nadu, Railways, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand and Goa.

In Elite Group B, runners-up Bengal is placed alongside Vidarbha, Haryana, Kerala, Tripura and Rajasthan. As for the Plate Division, it consists of Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the SMAT matches would be played across Lucknow, Guwahati, Baroda, Delhi, Haryana and Vijayawada, with all the knockouts being scheduled in Delhi. However, the BCCI is yet to announce the venues for VHT.

The Indian domestic season returns full-fledged after a couple of years. The season was held in a truncated manner last season owing to the prevailing pandemic.
