The Indian Premier League is already the biggest Twenty20 tournament in the world. However, it is set to get even more prominent from 2022, with a couple of new franchises set to be added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has already chalked out the plan for the same, while it is looking to make a significant windfall. According to a source quoting PTI, a company can buy the bid documents for a price of ₹75 crore.

As for the bidding price of the new franchise, the top brass was initially keen on setting the base price at ₹1,700 crore. However, after some further internal discussions, it was decided that the base price would now be set at ₹2,000 crore.

Consequently, the BCCI is also set to earn a profit of ₹5,000 crore if things go as per plan. Meanwhile, the number of games would also be increased to 74, thus making the profit margin significantly strong.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that companies with an annual profit of ₹3,000 crore would only be eligible to bid. Also, the BCCI would grant a consortium to bid for the side to make the bidding process more pulsing.

The two new teams would likely be from the region of Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Pune. Also, the former two seem more suitable owing to the bigger capacity venues, i.e. Narendra Modi Stadium (1,10,000) and Ekana Cricket Stadium (50,000). Among the rumoured groups planning to purchase a franchise happen to be Adani Group, RPG Sanjeev Goenka Group, Torrent Pharmaceuticals and a leading banker.
