After pacer Tim Southee dismissed all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, the latter was seen having a word with KKR skipper Eoin Morgan before Dinesh Karthik came in between as the peacemaker. Later, after spinner Ashwin got rid of Morgan during the chase, he was involved in a lively celebration.

Clarifying on the same, Karthik said after the match, "Rahul Tripathi threw the ball, it hit Rishabh Pant and then ricocheted. And Ashwin called for it, and they started to run. I don't think Morgan appreciates that. I think he's somebody who, when the ball hits the batsman or the bat, he expects them not to run in the spirit of cricket."

"I think it's part and parcel of the game because both teams are striving to win the match, so some things are going to happen. Whatever is good for the game. I think that was in the spirit of the game, nothing much, because at the end of the day, Ash and Morgan are trying to win the game for their sides, and there can be some miscommunication in between," he added.

Also, during the game, both sides were involved in a funny altercation. While batting in the 17th over against spinner Varun Chakravarthy, DC skipper Rishabh Pant defended the ball.

Later, the 'Spirit of Cricket' was upheld during the second game between defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). At 38/1, when MI spinner Krunal Pandya was bowling at Chris Gayle, a straight shot deflected PBKS skipper KL Rahul at the non-striker's end before Krunal collected it and threw it at the stumps.

Although Krunal appealed for the run-out, Rahul was not happy with it. Immediately, Krunal withdrew his appeal from the on-field umpire, who was gesturing to refer the request upstairs, to the third umpire. Later, Rahul was seen giving a thumbs up to skipper Rohit Sharma for upholding the spirit.
