IPL 2021: Prithvi Shaw's fiery knock of 82 helps Delhi Capitals floor Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets

The 14th edition of the gainful Indian Premier League is presently played in India this season. Delhi Capitals is the runner-up from IPL 2020 and looks like a contender for IPL 2021. Kolkata Knight Riders has not clicked of late despite being a two-time champion.

It was an atomic show by the batsmen of Delhi Capitals. They ripped apart former champion Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in Match 26 of the 2021 Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Opener Prithvi Shaw's marvellous knock of 82 was the highlight of the entire game.

Winning the toss, DC elected to bowl first, as skipper Rishabh Pantmadea change, bringing in Lalit Yadav for an injured spinner Amit Mishra. As for KKR, skipper Eoin Morgan moved in with an unchanged XI.

KKR lost the opening wickets in the fourth over, with 25 runs on the board, as Nitish Rana was stumped off spinner Axar Patel for 15. Nonetheless, it was followed by a 44-run stand for the second wicket between Gill and Rahul Tripathi until the tenth over, when the latter departed for 19 to pacer Marcus Stoinis.

KKR lost some momentum thereon, as the following over, Morgan and Sunil Narine were dismissed for unfortunate ducks, while the score read 75/4. Just seven runs later, Gill departed as well, in the 13th over, to pacer Avesh Khan.

A 27-run stand ensued between wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and all-rounder Andre Russell before the former was trapped leg-before by Axar in the 17th over, at 109. Nevertheless, along with Pat Cummins, Russell ensured some late fireworks to steer KKR to 154/6.

For DC, six bowlers were put into the attack. While Axar and Lalit were the most successful, the latter was highly economical as well.

As DC came out for the chase, there was no stopping Shaw, who hammered 24 runs in the opening over off pacer Shivam Mavi. It eventually set the pace of the entire hunt, as DC posted 67/0 by the powerplay.

Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan contributed to a 132-run opening stand, while during this phase, the former slammed his ninth IPL half-century in just 18 deliveries. Nevertheless, it was in the 14th over when the opening breakthrough came in the form of Dhawan, who pacer Cummins dismissed for 46 after being trapped leg-before.

Meanwhile, 14 runs later, Shaw's onslaught came to an end, as he fell for 82 to Cummins in the 16th over. He was followed by Pant in the same over, for 16, at 150. Nonetheless, Stoinis hit the winning runs, as DC sealed the game by seven wickets.

As for KKR, five bowlers were put into the attack. Cummins was the only bowler who attained success and was the most economical of all.
Brief scores: KKR 154/6 (Gill- 43, Russell- 45; Lalit- 2/13, Axar- 2/32) lost to DC 156/3 in 16.3 overs (Shaw- 82, Dhawan- 46; Cummins- 3/24) by seven wickets.
