T20 World Cup 2021, Scotland vs Namibia (Super 12): Namibia sounds off Scotland in a convincing fashion

On Wednesday, Namibia managed to beat Scotland by four wickets in the Super 12 stage of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi. With this loss, Scotland has jeopardised its chances of reaching the semis.

It was a commendable performance from Namibia. On Wednesday, it outlasted Scotland by four wickets in Group 2's Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. While it was Namibia's opening win in its first game of the stage, Scotland suffered its second successive defeat, seriously denting its semis qualification chances.

Winning the toss, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus opted to bowl while he moved in with the same XI. As for Scotland, captain Richie Berrington made a forced change, bringing in Craig Wallace for regular skipper Kyle Coetzer. Scotland was off to an awful start, losing George Munsey (0), Calum Macleod (0), Berrington (0) and Craig Wallace (4) by the sixth over of the Powerplay, with just 18 runs on the board.

A 39-run partnership ensued between Matthew Cross (19) and Michael Leask (44) before the former was knocked over by Jan Frylinck in the 12th. At 93, JJ Smit cleaned up Leask, while six runs later, Mark Watt (3) fell to Frylinck in the 19th. Scotland finished on 109/8, with Chris Greaves (25) the final man to depart off a run out on the last ball of the innings.

Seven bowlers were utilised by the Namibians, with Ruben Trumpelmann claiming three, while Frylinck was exceptionally economical. In reply, Namibia lost Michael van Lingen (18) to Safyaan Sharif in the sixth over of the PP, while 22 runs later, Zane Green (9) fell to Greaves in the tenth.

In the 12th, at 61, Erasmus (4) was bowled over by Leask, followed by opener Craig Williams (23) off Watt in the subsequent over, six runs later. Nonetheless, Namibia did not panic, as David Wiese (16) and Smit (32*) put on a 35-run stand to set the platform for its win. In the 18th, Wiese departed to Leask at 102, while Jan Frylinck (2) fell to Bradley Wheal, seven runs later.

However, it was already too late for the Scottish, as the Namibians eventually saw out the chase, winning by four wickets, with five balls to spare. While the Scottish put six bowlers into the attack, Leask claimed a couple, as Wheal was heavily economical.
