Namibia could breathe a sigh of relief for the moment, as it defeated the Netherlands by six wickets in Group A's Qualifier 7 of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. With this win, Namibia stayed in contention for the Super 12s, while the Netherlands is nearly out of the contest.

Winning the toss, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus opted to bowl, making a change by bringing in Michael van Lingen for Pikky Ya France. In contrast, Netherlands captain Pieter Seelaar brought in Stephan Myburgh and Timm van der Gugten.

With 42 runs on the board, the Netherlands lost Myburgh (17) in the sixth over of the Powerplay to Frylinck, followed by Roelof van der Merwe (6) in the eighth to David Wiese, 13 runs later. Nevertheless, opener Max ODowd (70) and Colin Ackerman (35) contributed to an impressive 82-run stand for the third wicket before the latter departed to Frylinck in the 18th, at 137.

At this time, ODowd scored his eighth T20I half-century, as he was run out at 157 in the final over. The Dutch finished at 164/4, while Namibia put five bowlers into the attack, with Frylinck claiming a couple and JJ Smith being the most economical of all.

In reply, Namibia lost its opening wicket at 34, with Zane Green (15) being cleaned up by Fred Klaassen in the fifth over of the PP. While it lost Craig Williams (11) off Ackermann in the seventh, 17 runs later, at 52, fellow opener Stephan Baard (19) was knocked over by Seelaar in the ninth.

However, Erasmus (32) and Wiese (66*) contributed to a substantial 93-run stand for the fourth wicket, eventually setting the tone of the Namibian chase. At 145, in the 17th over, the former was dismissed by van der Gugten, but the latter, along with Smit (14*), got the job done, winning by six wickets, with six balls to spare.

The Dutch utilised eight bowlers. While four bowlers claimed a wicket each, Klaassen ruled it with his economy. Netherlands is placed at the bottom of Group A, while Namibia is ranked third, as Sri Lanka vs Ireland would decide Netherlands' fate.
