Uncertainty prevails over the result of the Pataudi Trophy 2021 after the fifth Test between India and England was called off at Old Trafford in Manchester due to COVID fears in the Indian camp. While the International Cricket Council is yet to decide on the same, an abandonment would lead to India winning the series 2-1, with England losing out on insurance claims. At the same time, a forfeit would help England square series and claim the insurance.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has held discussions with the England and Wales Cricket Board. To compensate for the latter's loss, the former has offered to reschedule the Test to 2022 when India tour for the limited-overs contests. Besides, it has also contributed to play a couple of extra Twenty20 Internationals if it was impossible to reschedule the Test.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed the offer to Cricbuzz, stating that it would only go ahead with ECB politely agreeing to resolve the standoff regarding the fifth Test. However, he confirmed that ECB has to choose five T20Is instead of three or three T20Is and the rescheduled Test.
