Kochi: 93-year-old Thomas and his 88-year-old wife Mariamma have recovered from coronavirus in Kerala. This has broken the myth that elderly people and those with other medical complications were highly vulnerable to infections and had higher chances of death due to coronavirus.

The aged couple hails from Ranni in Pathanamthitta district. The duo was infected with the virus after their son returned from Italy. On March 9, the couple was admitted to Kottayam Government Medical College. It is reported that the duo had age-related complications like diabetes and hypertension.

Soon after, there was an improvement in their condition. The couple’s swab samples were sent for virus testing and the final test results turned negative. At present, the couple is only battling age-related illness.

Now, all the five members of the Italy-returned family have recovered. They are already discharged from the hospital.
