India reports 43,654 fresh COVID-19 cases, 640 fatalities in last 24 hours

The country on Wednesday has reported 43,654 fresh cases in the last 24 hours which pushed the nationwide tally to 31,484,605 while the death toll climbed to 4,22,022 with 640 daily fatalities. While 41,678 recovered during the same period, the active caseload stands at 3,99,436. The national COVID-19 recovery rate improved to 1.27 per cent, it stated. The number of active cases fell by 1336.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,06,63,147, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34 per cent, it said. So far, 44.61 crore vaccine doses have been administered as the government aims to vaccinate all adults by the end of this year.Â
The health ministry further said that more than 2.28 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with states, Union Territories and private hospitals for inoculation. The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, and advance visibility of vaccine availability to states and Union Territories.
As per the latest study published by The Lancet, those administered with Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccine jabs many need another booster shot as antibody levels start to wane six weeks and can reduce by more than 50 per cent over 10 weeks.Â
