A criminal case was registered against six people from Thannithod in Pathanamthitta district for vandalising the house of a young woman under quarantine for COVID-19.

Three CPI(M) workers were arrested on Wednesday for plotting the attack, while the other three are absconding.

The three CPI(M) members tried to play vigilantes and attacked the house alleging that the woman's father walks around in town, breaching quarantine.

Earlier party workers had circulated a message on WhatsApp instigating attacks on the woman's father. When the woman filed a complaint with the local police against the message circulating, the instigators attacked her home, breaking its windows by pelting stones.

The CPI(M) has suspended the three members from their party.
After the attack, the woman filed another complaint, this time with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who belongs to the same party as the three accused. Pinarayi Vijayan acknowledged the complaint and promised that strict action will be taken against the accused.

Rajesh (46), Asokan (43) and Ajesh (46) were arrested by the police whereas the other three; Naveen, Jinson and Sanal are absconding since the incident. The woman who was studying in Coimbatore, had earlier gone into quarantine following advice from the health department. Her father did not live with his daughter as she was in quarantine. He had left her sister at home with her and would supply them food from another building where he was lodged. He would go out to buy food for the family. The journeys of the father irked the accused and they attacked the family because of the same.
