Will the beloved Tirupati laddus cost more due to GST

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board has made an appeal to the centre to exempt ingredients used for making laddus and other prasadams from GST.

The TTD submitted a memorandum to Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu addressing it to the GST. He will present the memorandum to the GST Council.

In the GST regime, sweet condiments like laddu will be taxed at 5%.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Ramakrishnudu said that the TTD is asking exemption from GST for ingredients of laddus as well as other prasadams. They are also requesting a waiver from pilgrim-related services provided like choultries, guest houses and sale of human hair among others.

The Finance Minister has said that he is sure the GST council will exempt laddu ingredients from the taxable items list.
