UP and Bihar lead the pack.

North Indian states have always had a strong showing in the Civil Services. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, in particular, have consistently been front-runners. Data collected since 1950 shows Uttar Pradesh at the top spot, having produced over 2,000 IPS officers. This is not just because of its large size and population, but also due to the immense interest its youth show in Civils.

Bihar follows closely, securing the second position with 1,450 IPS officers. Rajasthan has given the country 1,000 IPS officers, bagging the third spot. This clearly shows the interest of Rajasthani youth in the defence and police sectors.
