Karnataka: Sheer negligence of authorities leaves flood relief materials to rot in Gadag

In the aftermath of the floods, the Karnataka government had sent ration kits to be distributed to flood victims. However, stored in a place for over 10 months now, the food materials have been left to rot

Gadag: Devastating floods had ravaged North Karnataka in the month of August last year. Almost 60 people lost their lives, while many lost their homes and livelihoods. In the wake of the destruction, locals across the state extended a helping hand and aid poured in from all quarters, the local authorities did not even bother to ensure the aid reached the flood affected victims.

Tons of food were left to rot in Rona taluk, Gadag. More than 380 ration kits were stored in the village's veterinary hospital room for over 10 months without being delivered to the victims. The government-provided kit includes 10 kg of rice, 1 litre of cooking oil, 1 kg of salt, tomatoes, and 5 litres of kerosene. The cooking oil has passed its expiry date. The sheer negligence of the authorities has made the state government incur huge losses. Flood victims have now demanded that the government takes note and suspends guilty officers.
