Ordering booze on Instagram, WhatsApp: Youth arrested for selling liquor online

As the lockdown days go by, the desperation for alcohol has forced many to try different avenues in search of booze. Seizing the opportunity, a youngster took the online route to sell liquor for more than double the price. The excise department however dashed his hopes when they arrested him

Lockdown may have brought a stop to many activities like luxury items and has even forced some to go without liquor, but certain youngsters look for business opportunities to take advantage of desperate addicts, even if it means taking the illegal route.

Kiran would put advertisements of sale of branded liquor on his Instagram account with details of his WhatsApp number.

He would charge more than double the amount per bottle. After receiving the amount through Google pay and Phone Pe, he would hide the bottle at a particular location in Vijayanagar area and would then send the location of the required liquor through WhatsApp along with the photo of it to clients.

Upon hearing the matter, excise officials laid a trap. However, the accused escaped.

Thinking that he could get away, he still continued with the trade.

Police, however, did not give up. They set up another trap. This time they chose a different person who spoke in Urdu so that he wouldn’t suspect that it was another ploy to get him. Kiran was convinced that this was a genuine customer.

On Saturday night when the accused arrived at the location to drop the order, what ensued was a dramatic filmy style chase. He was caught and handed over to Byatarayanapura Police and a case has been registered.
