Washington DC: Democrat Joe Biden was cleared to be sworn in as U.S. president on Jan. 20 when Vice President Mike Pence declared that Congress had confirmed the Electoral College tally of states' results that showed Biden the winner of the November 3 contest against incumbent President Donald Trump.

Apart from Kamala Harris, who will be the first woman to be sworn in as Vice President of the United States, the Biden-Harris administration will have several American citizens of Indian origin in key positions.

The US Congress has resumed the final stage of the confirmation of Joe Biden as the next President and Kamala Harris as the Vice President, hours after sitting President Donald Trump's supporters violently stormed the Capitol building.

At least four people died on the US Capitol grounds Wednesday and 52 people were arrested after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an unprecedented effort to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert J Contee said.

Officials have claimed that they recovered two pipe bombs, one outside the Democratic National Committee and one outside the Republican National Committee. Police found a cooler from a vehicle that had a long gun and Molotov cocktail on Capitol grounds.
