Two ITBP personnel killed in Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district

Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Friday.

The incident took place when a coy of 45th battalion of the ITBP were out for parameter patrol duty at around 12 pm.

As per initial information, the squad of the ITBP was fired upon by the Naxals in which Assistant Commandant Sudhakar Shinde and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Gurmukh Singh received bullet injuries and later succumbed.

According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P, the Naxals also looted and escaped with one AK-47 rifle, two bullet-proof jackets and one wireless set of the security personnel.

Reinforcement has been rushed to the spot and the bodies of martyred personnel were being evacuated, he added.

Earlier this month, Maoists had attacked an iron ore mining site in the same area killing the supervisor of a private firm, torching six heavy vehicles, and briefly holding 13 other employees hostage.

In another incident, in March, at least 3 District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and one police personnel were killed in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Narayanpur district. As many as 14 security personnel were injured in the blast.

On February 24, two security personnel were killed in two separate incidents when Maoists set off improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Narayanpur.
